The mission of ASTRO is to advance the practice of radiation oncology by disseminating the results of scientific research, promoting excellence in patient care, providing opportunities for educational and professional development of its members and representing radiation oncology in a rapidly evolving socioeconomic healthcare environment. Members of ASTRO will strive for excellence in clinical, research and educational domains in the use of radiation therapy and will be partners in the multidisciplinary quest to eradicate cancer as a cause of death and suffering.

 European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology

ESTRO was founded in Milan in September 1980 as a society of individual members working in the field of radiotherapy and oncology. Its principal objectives are to foster radiation oncology in all its aspects; develop standards for the Q.A. of radiation oncology, radiophysics, radiation technology and radiobiology in Europe and stimulate their implementation; improve the standards of cancer treatment by establishing radiation oncology as a clinical specialty integrated with other cancer treatment modalities; promote international exchange of scientific information on radiotherapy and oncology and related fields of science such as radiophysics and radiobiology; set standards for education and practice in radiation oncology and associated professions; and establish relationships and cooperation with international, regional and national societies and bodies in the field of radiation oncology.

 American Brachytherapy Society

The American Brachytherapy Society was founded in 1978 to provide insight, rationale, and research into the use of brachytherapy in the treatment of both malignant and benign conditions. The organization consists of physicians, physicists, and others interested in brachytherapy.

The mission of the ABS is to benefit patients by providing information directly to the consumer, by promoting the highest possible standards of practice of brachytherapy, and to benefit health care professionals by encouraging improved and continuing education for radiation oncologists and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of cancer. Additionally, the ABS seeks to promote clinical and laboratory research into the frontiers of knowledge of the specialty and to study the socioeconomic aspects of the practice of brachytherapy.

 American Urological Association (AUA)

The American Urological Association (AUA), founded in 1902, is the premier professional association for the advancement of urologic patient care, and works to ensure that its more than 14,500 members are current on the latest research and practices in urology. The Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) was created in 1984 to enable qualified members primarily interested in the care of patients with malignant genitourinary diseases to meet for the purpose of discussion, development, and implementation of ideas to improve care. The Society and its bylaws conform to the guidelines and bylaws of the American Urological Association (AUA).
